Treatment
of Industrial Waste Water
One of Microbial Technologies'
primary activities is the development of biological systems for the treatment
of organic and inorganic pollutants in contaminated water, including industrial
effluent and wastewater, leachate, and runoff.

We develop both passive systems, where operation and maintenance needs are negligible,
and active systems, where O&M is significant. Each system is designed specifically
for the contaminants it will remove and for the unique characteristics of the
site where the system will be located.
We have investigated, designed
and developed biological treatment systems for contaminants from several industries,
including:
Mining
Treatment of contaminated mine water containing AMD/ARD, ammonium, copper, cyanide,
iron, molybdenum, nickel, nitrate, selenium, thiocyanate, and zinc |
Forestry
Treatment of stormwater runoff or landfill leachate containing phenols, tannins and lignins, organic acids, and aluminum, iron, manganese and wood preservatives. |
Petrochemical
Treatment of discharges containing naphthenic acids, phenols, and other hydrocarbons |
Other industries
Treatment of industry-specific contaminants, such as selenium from coal ash leachate.
One of Microbial Technologies' notable achievements has been to pioneer, in Canada,
the use of wet-lands to treat wastewater in applications such as treating metal-contaminated
mine drainage, hydrocarbon-contaminated surface runoff, and sewage. |
